Your Defiance College ID is Your Key to Library Services!
Your Defiance College ID allows you to borrow items from the Library, request items from other OhioLINK libraries, use OhioLINK's Pick-Up Anywhere service, and use our research databases off-campus. We need to create a record in our system for you to use these services. If you have an ID and have never used the Library, please contact Collette Knight. Collette will need to know: the bar code number on your ID (begins with 80), your name, your home address, your home phone number, and your email address to create your record.
Our web site connects you to full-text resources
You can access thousands of articles, books, and digital media items through our web site. Remember, you will need to have an ID and a record in our system to access our resources off-campus. When you click on a link to one of our resources off-campus, you will be redirected to another server where you will be asked to authenticate or prove you are affiliated with Defiance College. You will be asked to enter your name and Library bar code number. Depending on the resource, you may also be asked to identify your home institution (Defiance College) in a drop-down list. If you experience problems, please call the main Library number, (419) 783-2481, and ask for help.
Research resources for your students
You can see our recommendations for the best article citation databases, reference sources, and journals for the course(s) you are teaching by viewing our subject guides. Please encourage your students to use these resources.
We can also create a course page for your class. Contact Amanda DeArmond if you are interested in having a course page created.
Lookfing for specific journal title?
Use the Journal Finder see if the full-text is available. You can always find a link to this nifty tool under the brown "Go to..." navigation bar on the left side of every page.
Library instruction
We are more than happy to meet with your class for 15 minutes or an entire class to go over the most relevant research tools for you students. We prefer to make our time in class interactive and meaningful for your students. Please contact Amanda DeArmond to schedule a time.
Putting items on reserve for student use
You can place books (library owned or your own personal copy), articles, videos, or other items on reserve for use by your students. Items are normally placed on reserve for 2 hour library use only. Students can search for Reserves by your name or course number. However, you do have the option to choose a different loan time. Print out and complete a Reserve Request form for each item you want to place on reserve. Please contact Collette Knight for more information.
Copyright, Fair Use, and Public Domain
Use the following tools to learn more about copyright and fair use.
Public Domain Slider - determine if work is protected by copyright or in the public domain.
Fair Use Evaluator - determine if you can use a work under the fair use section of copyright code. Tool includes a mechanism to collect and organize information to support a fair use evaluation.
Exceptions for Instructors - determine if you can display copyrighted works in class or in a hybrid course.
Recommending books or videos for the collection
We welcome and encourage faculty to recommend items to be purchased for the collection. Please contact Andrew Whitis for more information.
Notification of Items added to our collection
You can view a monthly compilation of new items added to the library's collection on our web site. The list is arranged by Library of Congress classification.
