Man on Wire

About the Documentary

Filmmaker James Marsh uses interviews, archival footage, and reenactments to tell the story of Philippe Petit's 1974 daring high-wire tightrope walk between the World Trade Centers in lower Manhattan. Petit, a French acrobat, put together a trusted crew of friends to help him achieve this incredibly dangerous and illegal stunt. The crew had previously planned a bold tightrope walk between two towers of Notre Dame In Paris and another walk between towers of the Sydney Harbor Bridge They went through every detail making sure that there was no room for error, which makes the documentary play out like a fictional heist movie. Petit was on the wire between the buildings walking and dancing for almost an hour before stepping foot onto the other tower and immediately being arrested by police. He was soon released. Petit was able to overcome a number of obstacles in order to accomplish this major artistic feat.
