Borrowing, Renewing & Fines: Fines & Fees

All you need to know about our circulation policies!

Info on Fines and Fees

Overdue for 1 - 29 days:  You will be charged a 50-cent per day fine for not returning the item by its due date.*

Reserve Items: Overdue items designated "two hours library-only" will be fined at the rate of 50 cents per hour.

Technology Items: IPads, headphones and other technology accessories are in-library use and they circulate for 2-hour periods.  If a patron keeps the item past its two-hour loan period, it will be considered overdue and will be fined at the rate of 50 cents per hour.

Recalled item:  If your item is recalled, you will be charged $2 per day for failing to promptly return the item.

Overdue for 30 days or more:  Items are assumed lost after 30 days of being overdue.  You will be charged $125 for each lost item.  This $125 lost item charge includes a $75 replacement fee, a $35 billing fee and the original $15 fine.  You will not be able to borrow additional items from the library until you either return the lost item(s) or pay $125 per lost item.  If you return an item within two months of being billed, the $75 replacement fee will be waived; however, you will still be required to pay the original $15 fine and the $35 billing fee for each item returned.

All outstanding amounts are forwarded to the Business Office on the first business day of each month.  At that point, charges are added to your Defiance College account and will be handled through the Business Office.

This information is featured in the student handbook and in the course catalog.  Recall, renewal and billing replacement notices are sent to your college email account.  Failure to take action on notices or bills does not exempt you from paying fines or replacement charges.  Nonpayment may result in the withholding of grade report cards, transcripts, and/or diplomas.
