First Year Experience: Writing Help

Helpful information and links for students in the FYE 100 course.

Even though you have three major writing assignments for the FYE 100 course, do not panic! You should utilize the writing consultation services available through Student Academic Support Services' Learning Studio to assist you in improving your writing for each of these assignments. Writing Consultations are just one of many services provided by SASS (Student Academic Support Services).  Please follow directions in the box below to use the online appointment system for scheduling a writing consultation. 

Writing Consultant Appointment Scheduling

To book an Online Writing Consultation, simply click the "Schedule Appointment" button below. Then on the day/time of your appointment, follow the directions in the "Directions for Using Google Docs for an Online Consultation" box. 

Grammarly

Image result for grammarly.eduWhile it does NOT fulfill the required visit(s) to a Writing Consultant for your FYE100 writing assignments, Grammarly.edu (the premium edition) is an online tool available free to Defiance College students to review papers.

To set up a Grammarly.edu account:

1.  Go to grammarly.edu/enterprise/signup

2.  Provide your full name and @defiance.edu email (you must use your Defiance College email to get access to all features)

3.  Check your inbox for the email and click on the activation link. 

4.  Note: if you want to use plagiarism checker you will need to enable that feature under the navigation bar when you create or upload a document - plagiarism checker is disabled by default. 

You will be required to use APA style for all FYE 100 writing assignments. APA is a style of writing & formatting that was created by the American Psychological Association. APA is most commonly used in the social sciences & sciences.
