Internship Prep101: "How to Succeed in Your Internship" Workshop

Serrick Center • Cultural Arts Center • Registration is required

All students completing a Spring 2019 Internship for Academic credit are required to attend prior to beginning an internship!  Prepares students to enter into an internship by reviewing various topics from office dress codes and etiquette to familiarizing yourself with the company/organization and doing your research before you arrive the first day. Also discusses how to get the most out of the experiential learning opportunity for your career readiness.

CareerFest 2019- Sponsored by Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC)

Friday, February 1, 2019 • 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Ohio Expo Center and State Fair, Cardinal Hall, Columbus, OH      Registration is required

CareerFest is one of Ohio's largest career fairs designed for students of ALL majors and this includes Freshman – Seniors!  Students and alumni of OFIC member colleges and universities are admitted at no cost.  The Office of Career Development will be providing transportation and lunch to all students wishing to attend.  You are welcome to provide your own transportation, however, you will still need to register.  Defiance College students in the past have received internships and jobs from this career fair.  All students attending the Fair will schedule a time to meet with Tracy or Sally to prepare for the event.

Criminal Justice Night and Presentation

Monday, February 4, 2019 • 4:00pm – 6:00pm • Informational Fair and 6:30pm – 8pm • Presentation

Serrick Center • Hubbard Banquet Room/Buchman Board Room

This informational fair is in its twenty-first year and features criminal justice professional from all over the State of Ohio and parts of Michigan.  This year’s presentation-speaker to be announced.   This event is for all criminal justice, digital forensic science, and forensic science majors. Co-sponsored by the Criminal Justice faculty and the Office of Career Development.

 

Criminal Justice Mock Interviews

February 19, 2019 • 8:00 am – 12 noon

Serrick Campus Center, Cultural Arts Center/Buchman Board Room

This event is an opportunity for Criminal Justice majors to be interviewed by Criminal Justice professionals followed by a critique of the interview. Co-sponsored by the Criminal Justice faculty and the Office of Career Development.

 

Mock Interviews for Education Majors

Monday, February 25, 2019 • 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm             

Serrick Campus Center • Hubbard Banquet Room

Education majors completing their internship will participate in mock interviews and dinner with education professionals.  After the mock interview each intern will receive feedback from their interview.   Dinner will be provided after the mock interview event as a well as an opportunity for the interns to continue networking with education professionals.  Co-sponsored by the Education department and Office of Career Development.

Corporate Conversations for STEM and Business Majors– Sponsored by Collegiate EmployNet

Friday, March 22, 2019 • 9:30 am – 12:30 pmRegistration is required

This event is specifically designed for students to learn about company culture, what employers look for in their talent search, and opportunities in organizations.   The major(s) focus will be in STEM and Business.  The Office of Career Development will be providing transportation and lunch to all students wishing to attend.  You are welcome to provide your own transportation, however, you will still need to register.  Professional Dress Required - No Jeans Please!

2019 Education Expo

This job fair is sponsored by the Career Centers of seven private universities/colleges in northwest Ohio.  Education Expo provides an opportunity for teacher candidates to meet with recruiters from school districts around the country.  

Teacher Candidates

To participate in Education Expo, teacher candidates MUST: 

  1. be an alumna/us or a current student who will have graduated with a teacher licensure from one of the sponsoring universities/colleges at the bachelor, master or doctoral degree level 
  2. hold current education licensure by August 15, 2018
  3. be eligible to accept new employment for the beginning of the 2018-19 academic year
  4. have a resume approved by your college or university Career Center
